YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DO THESE THINGS TO VOLUNTEER TO WORK ON THEM. I WILL GIVE YOU HELP. WHAT YOU NEED IS THE INTEREST IN LEARNING HOW.
OF COURSE, IF YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW, THAT'S GREAT TOO.
I'm not sure yet just how I want to do this, but let's start out. Here are some specific assignments with a contribution point number assigned to them. For now, let's have you tell me if you want to take on an assignment, and I'll take it down from the list and coordinate with you directly. I might let two people take on an assignment, either as a team or to get two different results. First come, first served on this. Let me know in the comments field if you are interested.
JOB 1: I am going to redecorate Miss Becky's Bible Blog for Advent. (probably in blues and purples). I want a nice advent wreath. That's the one with four candles, and you light an additional one each week, so they burn down crookedly. I'd like a nice gif, four gifs acually that would be one for each week. I want the candles to have flames that move and I want the candles to burn crookedly the way real advent wreaths work (You don't have to make the candles get shorter day by day--but on the first week, just the first candle will be burning, and on later weeks, it will look like that candle is shorter than the others.) I want it to be pretty and traditional. Does anyone want to take on making these for me? Needs to be finished by Thanksgiving, but let me know if you are going to work on this. (100 points)
JOB 2: I need someone to research advent and write me a page or so about Advent and Advent traditions. Not just cut and paste, I need it to be your own work. I need to have it by Thanksgiving, but I need to know much sooner than then if you are going to work on this (200 points).
JOB 3: The background color on Miss Becky's Bible Blog doesn't go all the way down. First person who can explain to me what is wrong and how to fix it gets 100 points. The answer is not that the image is too small. It is much larger than what is showing on the screen. They are chopping it off. Why? [Tip: Beginning Monday I am also going to try to get help with this, so the opportunity to help on this may go away. Or may not. This is a blogger, blogspot website, so my answer has to be specific to the blogspot forum, but if you can figure out how to change the html, that would work too. This may be just a matter of a google search, if we're lucky, but I didn't get things to work on my first exploration of this option. I managed to fix this by studying HTML. The problem was that I needed to tell the background image to repeat, and it had somehow got turned to "no repeat".
JOB 4: Really boring but you would begin to learn about audio files. I can show you exactly what to do with software you can download for free. I need people to take recordings of me reading the words in memory verses and chop them up into files of the single words, save those files each as an individual wave file that is labeled with the word into a folder. 100 points per verse. This is a job that would really help, and will give you familiarity with software. I wouldn't think people would want to do it forever, but it is the kind of thing that you could do for a little bit as you began to work with the audio software.
JOB 5: Similar to Job 4. I need people to take recordings of songs or stories, or whatever and work with the audiofiles to quiet all the noisy breaths. Again, this is not difficult, though it is a bit tedious. And beginning with a job like this will give you tools to begin doing more interesting things with audio. 100 points per verse or song. Maybe more if it turns out to be a long one.
JOB 6: How would you like to learn how to be a Blog Master? I need someone (or maybe several people) who would like to volunteer to learn how to use Blogspot. I'll set you loose as a co-blogger with me in a special blog that I'm going to use to practice how I want certain blogs to look--right now, how I want Miss Becky's Bible Blog to look for Advent, and after that for Spring and Lent. I'll give you points for going through the training videos, and then also for doing certain things on the blog (like fooling around with the colors and the layout, getting it all pretty for Advent, Christmas, Spring and Lent. You can use your skills any time that you want (parental permission granted of course) to start your own blog(s). They are free on blogspot.com. I don't know how many points I would give for this yet. We may end up negotiating it based on how much time you end up putting into this. This is the kind of thing that could get you ready for doing much more if you enjoyed it. It's also not an enormously difficult process to begin with.
JOB 7: How would you like to learn how to be a Web Site Designer? Let's talk. This is a bit more long-term. But something we're going to need.
